Lady Eagles lose season-opening games

St. Stephen's girls began the season in Billings.

It was a tough opening weekend for the defending Class 1-A State Champions at the All American Indian Shootout Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark in Billings, Montana last weekend.

On Friday, the Lady Eagles fell 82-61 to Lame Deer, Montana, then dropped a 57-44 contest to St. Labre on Saturday.

St. Stephen's continues in tournament play at Lingle-Fort Laramie next weekend.

Angel Redman had the hot hand for the Eagles against Lame Deer with 18 points, while Lyndsay Harris finished with 10.

Lame Deer runs the floor well and jumped on the Eagles 23-11, after one and held a 40-21 lead at the half.

St. Stephen's played much better in the second half, but couldn't overcome the deficit.

St. Labre's Jazzy and Tamia Two Moons combined for 51 points with Tamia hitting 26 and Jazzy 25, while Mishayne Bearchum finished with 15.

The Eagles had a slow start on Saturday against St. Labre, scoring only three points in the opening period, but battled back to trail by only four at the half.

The difference came in the third period with St. Labre exploding for 21 points behind high-scoring Sara Big Hair, who finished with 21 points to lead all scorers.

St. Stephen's all-state senior Trinity Goggles came untracked in the second game and led the Eagles with 18.
