St. Stephen's beat Cokeville to qualify for Casper.
The St. Stephen's boys punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 54-46 win over a game Cokeville team on Saturday morning at the Class 1-A West regional in Lander.
The Eagles garnered the fourth seed out of the west without playing in a third-place game since they fell to Farson-Eden in the opening round and Farson advanced with a win over Saratoga in the other qualifying contest.
Cokeville's 5-foot-8 senior, Dalin Hatch, gave the Eagles everything they wanted in the opening half and the Panthers led 24-22 at the break.
A 3-pointer by Vincent Brown lifted St. Stephen's to a narrow one-point lead and the score rocked back and forth with Trenton King and Hatch scoring for the Panthers and Xavier Hubbard and Nano Spoonhunter responding for St. Stephen's.
Baskets by freshman Curtis Oldman, Antonio Divers and Brown gave the Eagles a narrow 38-37 lead entering the final period.
Brown played well in the final period opening with a 3-pointer and stealing the ball for a game-insuring layup with just seconds to play.
Cokeville rallied a final time on a Hatch 3-pointer to close the game to 47-46 with a minute to play, but Brown's heroics combined with a pair of free throws from Kale Ferris sealed the win.
Hubbard led the Eagles with 21 points and Brown added 16.
The Eagles face Kaycee at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Casper Events Center in opening-round state tournament action.
