Black Hills Energy boosts rez hook-ups

Jun 1, 2017 From staff reports

Black Hills Energy highlighted its latest new accounts during the Select Committee on Tribal Relations meeting May 22 in Lander. Business development representative Lisa Nienhueser reported the company is working with the Wind River Hotel and Casino to hook up connection to a planned child care center to be constructed next to the casino. It is set to open in 2018.

BHE established a meter with the Shoshone Rose Casino and Hotel on October of last year. BHE currently has more than 700 residential and commercial customers on the Wind River Indian Reservation. Nienhueser said there are about 77 addresses on the reservation marked as "future prospects."

Of those, 35 are pending for the customers to start a service line agreement application process with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Of the 77, 42 households said they were no longer interested in switch over to BHE due to the distance between their homes and the natural gas pipelines.

There are 15 households who declined to converting their homes's supplier due to the high costs.
