Ralph Edgar Kniffin Jr. passed away July 25, 2017, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. He was 73 years old.
He was born Dec. 12, 1943, in Ft. Washakie, the son of the late Ralph Edgar Kniffin Sr. and Lavina Sanchez.
He was raised on the Wind River Indian Reservation. He attended Ft. Washakie Elementary, Lander Valley High School, Riverton High School and Haskel Indian School. He served in the United States Army in Germany and was honorably discharged Aug. 2, 1970. He was employed at the Lander Journal, Wyoming State Training School, Experience Works, Shoshone Tribal Station and Mr. D's.
"He had many friends in Lander and loved to socialize and was always making friends," his family said.
He enjoyed the casino, listening to music, playing the piano and composing his own music. He loved animals and adopted many of them. He also collected family pictures and enjoyed hiking. Most of all he loved being around his family and friends.
He is survived by brother, Leo Sanchez; niece, Vicki Robertson; nephew, Clifford Robertson; great niece, Codi Rowan; great nephews Andelee Charging Hawk, Colton Robertson and Alec Rowan; cousins Melba Stufflebean, V. Cathy Gervais, Patricia Bradley, Marilyn Antimone and Gilbert Jarvis; and numerous other family members.
He was preceded in death by sister, Laura Robertson; grandparents, Dianah Washakie Tillman and Albert Tillman; aunts Ruby Bolin and Irene Jarvis Quinn; uncles Ralph Tillman and Will James Tillman; and other family members.
Cremation has taken place under direction of Wind Dancer Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Sacajawea Cemetery, with military rites. Inurnment will be in the Sacajawea Cemetery at Ft. Washakie. A feast will follow at Rocky Mountain Hall in Ft. Washakie.
