Highway crack repair project set for Tuesday

Apr 26, 2015 From staff reports

A $2.3 million highway crack sealing maintenance project is scheduled to continue next week in Lander.

A crew with prime contractor Highway Improvement, Inc., of Sioux Falls, S.D., is scheduled for work beginning Tuesday on Wyoming Highway 789 beginning at Wyoming Highway 789's intersection with U.S. Highway 287 across the highway from the Wyoming Department of Transportation's office in Lander.

The Lander-area work is scheduled between mileposts 81.05, the Lander-Riverton junction, and 82.51 on Wyoming Highway 789, about 1.5 miles north toward Riverton.

The crews are scheduled to complete ongoing work Monday and Tuesday on Wyoming Highway 132 near Ethete, then will move to Lander.

Crack sealing is scheduled to conclude next week in the Lander area, and depending upon work scheduling, weather and work progress, the crews then will move to other Fremont County highways north of Riverton or near Dubois.

WyDOT contracts with private companies for highway crack sealing to restrict surface water penetration into asphalt pavement subbase and base under the asphalt.

"These work time estimates are based upon favorable weather," said Erik Smith, WyDOT resident engineer in Lander. "Any traffic delays will be minimal. We apologize for the inconvenience of this work, but crack sealing is an important part of maintaining our highways in Wyoming."

When complete, highway cracks will be sealed in Big Horn, Park, Hot Springs, Washakie and Fremont counties.
