The way it was: Busy rodeo summer -- 1987

Jul 19, 2015 Staff

Fremont County was a hot spot for rodeo in the summer of 1987. In addition to the familiar Lander Old Timers rodeo on the Fourth of July and the Fremont County Fair's PRCA rodeo in early August, there also was a lively series Little Cowpoke Rodeo Association events for younger riders and ropers in Lander, Riverton and Pavillion that culminated with the Little Cowpoke finals on Aug. 10.

Riverton Rendezvous had a night of rodeo on the schedule, and the Riverton night rodeo series carried for several weeks in July.

That's where this picture came from, showing roper Rob McCray of Jeffrey City catching the heels of a calf during the final round of Riverton Night Rodeo, pictured on July 28, 1987.
