A Lander woman is out nearly $2,000 after a new fraud hit the area.

Officers from the Lander Police Department received a call at 9:03 p.m. Aug. 21 reporting fraud on Chase Drive.

Public information officer Duane Kaiser said a woman received a call from a man stating Microsoft was attempting to update her computer and he needed access to it. The woman complied.

Less than an hour later, the woman received a call from Divine Tech Solutions saying her computer had been hacked, and if she spent about $2,000, the company could stop the hackers from stealing a much higher amount.

Kaiser said she sent the money in multiple transactions.

The Lander Police Department is investigating the incident.
