Wind River cruises over Riverside, 85-31

Feb 26, 2016 By Randy Tucker Staff Writer

Wind River's boys left little doubt that they are the Class 2-A West regional favorite, riding a 31-point opening period to a runaway 85-31 win Thursday over fourth-seeded Riverside out of the Class 2-A Northwest.

The win sends the Cougars on a collision course with Wyoming Indian in the fourth meeting of the season between the two powerhouse programs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wolverine Gym in Riverton.

Wind River's opening-period tally was equal to Riverside's entire game output.

Senior point guard Caleb C'Bearing had another outstanding game, dishing out assists quickly to Wind River's talented front line.

Senior Bryce Hankins hit four high-flying shots off lobs or perfect entry passes from C'Bearing, and he added a 3-pointer.

Jayin Trumbull shot well from short range over an athletic Riverside front line for 14 points.

Post players Taylor Tidzump and Jorden James continued to pound away at the Rebel defense from the paint, tallying 13 and 10 points, respectively.

With a dominating 49-19 lead at the half, Wind River head coach Justin Walker put his reserves in the game early.

Freshman Daylon Shoyo hit a pair of 3-pointers, while sophomore Dalton Finley made the best of his minutes, scoring nine points, including a trey.

The game was the only one of the 2-A West tournament to end via the running-clock rule. The final period rolled by quickly after a James follow shot gave the Cougars the magic 40-point margin with 7:13 left in the game, 70-29.
