A building that has stood vacant for several years on the east end of Lander's Main Street now offers residents another option for lunch and dinner.

Mountain Neighborhood Bar & Grill has been open on Main Street in Lander since February/

The building, which has been under renovation since September, has housed several restaurants, stores and truck stops over the years but is most commonly referred to as the old Highwayman Café.

"We have completely gutted the entire building and renovated it," restaurant manager Bruce Knell said, describing the new eating joint as "affordable family dining."

"The menu is done, and we literally have everything, from steak to shrimp, hamburgers, briskets - it's an extensive menu," Knell said. "It's not like anything Lander has."

Knell applied for a new liquor license for the restaurant. On Jan. 26, the Lander City Council agreed to approve the liquor license along with a renewal through February 2017.

The restaurant is named after a 40-foot mural that hangs on its walls depicting the sun setting behind the Grand Teton. The full bar on one side of the restaurant features four large-screen TVs that will show sporting events. The other side of the space will be family oriented and quieter. There also will be wireless Internet.

Knell said as a child growing up in Arizona he watched is parents have bars and restaurants. He decided to venture into the industry after struggles in the oil business.

"The oil business is not what it used to be, and it's too up and down," he said. "I wanted something stable, and to provide for people a place to eat."

He anticipates having 20 employees. Lunch and dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, another aspect Knell said makes the restaurant unique.

"We will be the only late night restaurant in town," he said.

Mountain Neighborhood Bar & Grill is at 720 E. Main St., Lander.
