Jason Hawk finally caved.
The owner of Riverton's Bar Ten opened his business for lunch last month.
Hawk said there's been "a need for something in our downtown area," something he said local workers have nagged at him about for six years.
He's hired Maria Alcaraz to be the head cook for the lunch hour, which has almost an entirely different menu than Bar Ten's evenings.
Alcaraz had operated a taco joint at Riverton's sale barn until it became so popular Jason said people were concerned Alcaraz was getting in the way of the main business.
That was convenient timing for Hawk to snatch her.
"He was one of my customers and we'd talk about it at my place," Alcaraz said.
"It all seemed to kind of fall into place. Now's our time," Hawk said.
Alcaraz brought five recipes from the sale barn with her, and comes up with a new special each day.
Instead of doing the pizzas Bar Ten serves in the evening, Hawk devised a different line of five flatbreads, which he said are more appropriate for lunch since they cook faster.
"We want to get people in and out of here in a timely fashion," he said.
Bar Ten's lunch also features an expanded version of its evening appetizer and salad menu.
Hawk said he hopes soon to add a full kitchen to allow Alcaraz to make chiles rellenos and breaded fish. That will also enable the evening staff to expand their menu.
Hawk is especially hoping the bar becomes popular as a takeout location and said the drive-up window makes it a quick stop.
Bar Ten is located at 114 S. Broadway Ave. and takeout orders can be placed by calling 856-BEER.
Bar Ten is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The bar will stay open after lunch ends.
