Rams lose pair of conference home games

Jan 31, 2017 By Randy Tucker, Staff Writer

Dubois was outmatched by Burlington and Meeteetse on their home court.

It was a disappointing weekend at home for the Dubois Rams in Class 1-A Northwest action.

The Rams dropped a 77-38 decision to league-leading Burlington on Friday, then were outgunned Saturday by the Meeteetse Longhorns, 73-41.

The losses drop Dubois to 1-3 in conference play with a trip to talented St. Stephen's this Friday.

The opening minutes looked promising for the Rams against the powerhouse Huskies, with Sean Mock, Wade Beavers and Warren Johnson keeping pace with the quick, talented speed of the Huskies.

Dubois trailed by just four after the first period, but whatever metaphor you choose, it was apt in the second and third as the Huskies rolled up 55 points in the middle periods and put the 40-point mercy rule into effect.

The Rams were besieged by illness this week and the pace Burlington set didn't fare well for the home team.

In the abbreviated final period, the Rams scored just four points to Burlington's three.

On Saturday, Meeteetse jumped ahead early by nine points, but Dubois played improved basketball in the second period before fading in the second half.

Meeteetse isn't a tall team but has great overall speed and many interchangeable parts offensively.

Mock tallied 14 points, Beavers 13 and Johnson 11. They were the only DHS players scoring against Burlington.

Beavers had 15 to pace the effort against Meeteetse.
