The cause of both the fire and the woman's death are under investigation.
A 71-year-old Riverton woman was killed in a fire Monday afternoon at her home in the 2500 block of Primrose Lane.
The initial call was placed by at about 2:50 p.m. Monday. The anonymous caller stated that black smoke could be seen coming from the building, and that an elderly woman may still have be inside of the home, though her dogs were outside.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by The Wyoming Fire Marshall's Office and Riverton Fire District.
The cause of death also is under investigation. The body will be sent to Loveland, Colorado, for autopsy on Wednesday.
Riverton Volunteer Fire Department chief Cory Higgs said the department was able to extinguish the fire and ventilate the 14-by-70 mobile home, which sustained "extensive smoke and heat damage," in about 30 minutes.
Authorities remained on scene until about 7 p.m. Monday.
Higgs said there were five pieces of fire apparatus on scene and 15-20 firefighters.
The Fremont County Sheriff's Department, Riverton Police Department, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, Fremont County Coroner, Wyoming State Fire Investigators and Guardian EMS also responded.
