Rams blasted by Rattlers, 79-43Feb 24, 2017 By Scott Akanewich, Sports Editor
Dubois' Wade Beavers scored 22 points in a Class 1-A West regional-opening loss to Little Snake River.
Wade Beavers showed up ready to play for the Rams of Dubois in their opening-round Class 1-A West regional contest against Little Snake River at Bob Carey Memorial Fieldhouse on Thursday.
Only problem was the rest of the Rams roster could muster only 21 points combined to go with Beavers' 22 in a 79-43 loss to the Rattlers.
Little Snake River got out to an early 16-6 lead and never looked back, as the combination of J.D. Corson (22 points) and Kameron Evans (16) all but took over the game, leading four Rattlers in double-figures on the evening.
The Rattlers led 23-10 after one quarter and continued to pour in the points in the second, as Riggen Myers and Trenton Jeannerett each scored on the way to 11 points apiece in the game, as part of a 10-0 run to open the quarter.
Beavers finally hit a shot for the Rams and at that point in the game, with the Rattlers holding a 31-12 lead, Kyle Eulberg was the only other Dubois player to have scored.
The Rams had difficulty breaking the full-court pressure put on by Little Snake River and the scoreboard reflected those woes, as the deficit gradually grew greater as the game wore on, with the Rattlers ahead by a 45-18 score at the half.
Evans scored the first five points of the third quarter, including a three, as his teammates picked up right where their left off to begin the second half.
Beavers answered with a pair of buckets, but the Rams' pursuit was futile, as the Rattlers cruised to victory.
The loss left Dubois with an elimination game against St. Stephen's on Friday.
