Coroner confirms name of man found dead in LanderApr 23, 2017 By Kelli Ameling, Staff Writer
Officials are waiting on autopsy results to determine the cause of death for man found dead April 11 in a home in Lander.
Officers from the Lander Police Department were dispatched at 1:20 p.m. that day to 1020 Riverview Drive in Lander. Someone had reported that a dead body had been found - specifically a man, with a knife in his chest.
The Fremont County Coroner's Office was dispatched a short time later to help with the investigation.
Coroner Mark Stratmoen confirmed the man was David Carey, 62, of Lander.
Both the LPD and coroner's office investigate such incidents as possible homicides until proven otherwise. However, Lander officers on scene April 11 confirmed there was not a threat to the community. In addition, Lander Middle School, which sits at the end of Riverview Drive, was not put on lockdown during the investigation.
Carey was taken for autopsy last week in Loveland, Colorado.
Full autopsy reports take about four to six weeks to come back to Stratmoen.
According to records from the Fremont County Assessor's Office, the property where Carey was found is owned by a group of people under the name Betty Carey Life Estate, of Douglas.
