Cowboys, Utes announce home-and-home football series

Laramie -- A football rivalry that dates back over a century is being renewed as the University of Wyoming and University of Utah announced on Wednesday a two-game, home-and-home series.

The Cowboys will host the Utes on Sept. 19, 2020, in Laramie. Wyoming will travel to Salt Lake City for a game to be played on Sept. 6, 2025.

"This is a great opportunity for us to renew a traditional rivalry that goes back to the Skyline Conference, through the WAC and the Mountain West Conference," said Tom Burman, University of Wyoming Athletics Director."We're excited for our fans, particularly in Western Wyoming.

"I've heard about the long history of this rivalry and I know our fans will be thrilled to see Utah return to War Memorial Stadium," said Craig Bohl, Wyoming head coach. "This will be an outstanding opportunity for us to play another quality PAC-12 opponent in the coming years.We look forward to the challenge as we continue to take steps forward in the development of our football program."

The games against Utah are two of five games facing PAC-12 Conference teams Wyoming has on its future schedules.The Cowboys and Utes have played 83 previous times, with the first game being played on Oct. 31, 1904.The two teams have not played since Oct. 16, 2010, the last year that both teams were members of the Mountain West Conference.The 83 previous games against Utah rank as the second longest series for Wyoming versus any opponent.The only longer series for the Cowboys is the "Border War" series versus Colorado State, which stands at 108 meetings.
