Nine arrests at City Park over weekend; booze factor in most

Aug 8, 2017 From staff reports

Local police made their way to Riverton City Park several times over the weekend in response to calls for service.

From Friday to Monday, nine people were arrested at the park, where local organizations have been working for the past several years to address issues of public intoxication. Almost all of the weekend's arrests involved drugs or alcohol, according to the Riverton Police Department.

Four people were taken into custody Friday at City Park, beginning with Daniel Oldman, 33, of Lander, and Fallon Addison, 34, of Arapahoe. They both were arrested at about 5:50 p.m. Friday for public intoxication.

At about 7:20 p.m. Friday, police responded to reports that an assault had taken place at the park. Officials said a man there claimed to have been assaulted, but he did not want to pursue charges.

Two people were arrested at about 8:30 p.m. Friday when police responded to another assault report at City Park. Officials said eight or nine people were involved in the fight, but many fled the scene when officers arrived.

Based on interviews with those who remained, officers arrested Billy Lookingbill, 36, of Riverton, for simple assault, and Amber Rojas, 35, of Riverton, for simple assault and possession of marijuana.

No one required medical attention.

Saturday was quiet, but Sunday saw four additional arrests at City Park, all for public intoxication: Joseph Arthur, 39, of Ethete, and Rupert Brown, 39, of Riverton, both were arrested at about 4:20 p.m. Sunday; Kenneth Shakespeare, 31, of Arapahoe, was arrested at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday; and Daniel Roman, 33, of Arapahoe, was arrested at about 7:20 p.m. Sunday.

The final arrest of the weekend at City Park also was for public intoxication: Brian Bell, 45, of Riverton, was arrested at about 1 p.m. Monday.
