Jacobson claims girls title for Lander at RHS golf invitational

Both Lander's boys and girls were second in the team standings, with Riverton's boys finishing third, led by individal runner-up Jorden James.

Fremont County golfers continued a solid start in the early 2017-18 high school sports season at the 11-team Riverton Invitational golf tournament held Thursday and Friday at the Riverton Country Club.

Lander's Macy Jacobson brought home medalist honors in the girls tournament, shooting a 171 (87-84), while teammate Rachel Stoinski placed third with a 184 (95-89) to lead the Lady Tigers to a second place finish in the two day event behind Evanston.

The Evanston girls finished on top of the team leader board at 569, while the Lady Tigers were seven strokes behind in second place, shooting a two-day team score of 576.

Not to be outdone, the Lander boys also finished second in the team standings, led by Jaren Calkins and Dominic Yates who both carded a 152.

Riverton's Jorden James, who was tied for first-round lead Thursday, finished second with a 4-over 148 (70-78), four strokes behind boys medalist Kirby Coe-Kirkham from Sheridan, who won the event with an even par 144 (70-74).

Sheridan's boys topped the team standings with a 637, followed by the Tigers with a 653 and Riverton at 700.

Riverton Lady Wolverine Shelby Watson placed fourth in the girls tournament, finishing at 185.
