Grasshopper numbers on the riseSep 3, 2017 From staff reports
Field survey work and citizen reports show that grasshopper populations are considerably higher than they have been in the past few years.
Grasshopper populations are cyclical, building up over a period of years then dropping off. Fremont County Weed and Pest began to see an increase in numbers late last summer, so assistant supervisor Nancy Pieropan said this increase in 2017 is not surprising.
There have been relatively few complaint calls to FCWP about grasshoppers, but purchases of grasshopper control products at our shops have increased since mid-summer.
FCWP provides a 40 percent cost share on insecticides for grasshopper control: EcoBrand, a Carbaryl bait; and Carbaryl 4L and Malathion 57 EC, which are liquid insecticides that are mixed with water.
