City finalizes yard sale ordinance

Sep 6, 2017 From staff reports

Without debate among council members, the Riverton City Council passed an ordinance on third reading Tuesday that will limit the number of yard sales residents are allowed to have each year.

The council has not faced any opposition from the public at any of its hearings on the subject.

The ordinance will apply only to residentially zoned areas, where residents now will be allowed to hold no more than three garage sales each year, with each lasting no longer than three days.

There was previously no city ordinance limiting such sales.

Some residents complained that garage sales had become more or less perpetual in some areas, turning residential neighborhoods near the sites into de-facto commercial zones.
