High-scoring game tips away from CWC women on the road in Miles City

Nov 22, 2013 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Miles Community College hit lots of free throws in an 85-79 Region IX women's basketball victory over the Central Wyoming College Rustlers Thursday night in Miles City, Mont.

Miles went 25-37 from the charity stripe to clinch the 6 point victory. CWC was only 9-13.

The contest was the Region IX opener for both teams.

"We probably played all right with us being on the road," CWC women's coach Serol Stauffenberg said. "The disappointing part is that you put almost 80 points on the board and lose."

CWC's Tina Hosea scored a game-high 24 points on six 3-pointers. "Tina had a good night for us," Stauffenberg said. "We had different kids step up. We had number of kids in foul trouble."

Foul trouble started early for CWC in the high-scoring game.

"We spent a lot of time reaching and not moving our feet," Stauffenberg said. "That part of the game was the disappointing part."

Miles was up only 34-33 after the first 20 minutes of play but outscored CWC 51-46 in the second half.

"We are going to force our tempo this year," Stauffenberg said. "The tempo of the game is where we wanted it. We just didn't react at all."

Busy weekend

CWC stayed in Miles City for two more games before returning to Riverton. The Rustlers played Williston State on Friday afternoon. "Williston is a very good team," Stauffenberg said. "They are an up-tempo type of team."

CWC plays Lake Region Saturday.

"Lake Region averages about 80 points per game," Stauffenberg said.
