Collision costs county-owned vehicle a rear wheel

Nov 24, 2013 By Katie Roenigk, Staff Writer

A Fremont County vehicle lost a wheel Tuesday after a traffic accident in south Riverton.

No one was seriously injured in the incident, though officials said the county employee driving the vehicle was treated for shoulder and back pain.

According to reports, the 59-year-old Riverton man was headed north on Broadway Avenue in the county vehicle -- a white 1998 Ford truck -- when he was struck by the 2004 Jeep Cherokee headed eastbound on Madison Avenue.

The Cherokee was driven by a 20-year-old Lander woman.

"She ran the stop sign (and) hit him," Riverton Police Department Capt. Eric Murphy said Thursday.

"She hit the back quarter panel of the truck, so the back left driver's side where his back tire is."

The woman had not received a citation as of Thursday. She was not injured in the incident.
