David Shook died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at his home in Riverton. He was 75 years old.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor David Magruder officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Friday-Truan Detachment No. 683 Marine Corp League and Veterans.
Montelle David Shook was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Champaign, Ill., the son of Montelle Lewis and Anna Elizabeth (Van Meter) Shook.
He graduated from Atwood High School in Atwood, Ill., in 1956. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 when he was honorably discharged.
He moved his family to Pavillion in 1974, to work at Lucky Mc mine as a heavy equipment operator. In 1985, he began working at the Barrick Gold Strike Mine in Carlin, Nev., and retired from there in 2003.
On Sept. 25, 2005, he married Ethel Stoneback in Riverton. The couple then spent their retirement in Riverton.
He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and was a member of Gun Owners of America.
His family said he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, riding ATVs, camping and spending time outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel, of Riverton; sons Parrish Shook of Casper and Toby Shook of Riverton; daughters Shaunna Buster of Carlin, Nev., and Lisa (Joe) Sarr of Firestone, Colo.; grandchildren Tyler Buster, Joe Sarr and Amy Ferrera; great-grandchildren Mathew and Maria Ferrera; sister Betty Perkins of Arkansas; and his first wife, Joan Martin, of Tolono, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Tina Purcell.
