Riverton girls edged by one point in Cheyenne by Windsor, Colo., team

Dec 6, 2013 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer

Trailing by three points at halftime, the Riverton High School girls basketball team exploded to outscore Windsor (Colo.) 16-3 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on in their first game of the season at the Cheyenne Invitational basketball tournament.

Riverton held on to a seven point lead with four minutes left to play but fell to Windsor 48-47.

"We moved the basketball very well in the first three quarters. I asked Jensyn Pettit (who is injured and could not play) what she saw. She said, 'I though we moved the basketball well and got the lead, but unfortunately that is kind of how we lost it. We quit moving.' She's right," Porter said.

Riverton used a zone defense that stifled the Wizards early.

"There are some bright spots and positives," Porter said.

Riverton was led in scoring by Savannah Salisbury with 16. Kiley Ridgway added 15, and Camey Fegler tossed in 12.

"The kids were disappointed, and that is a good sign. We need to get in better condition, and it will take us a while to settle on rotations," Porter said.

The Lady Wolverines battle Fossil Ridge, Colo. at 12:30 p.m. Friday and conclude their tournament vs. Cheyenne Central in a 3 p.m. Saturday game.
