Wolverine boys fade late in hoops opener, fall to Colorado squad

Dec 6, 2013 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer

The Riverton Wolverines opened their 2013-14 basketball campaign with a 62-43 loss to Thompson Valley, Colo., at the Cheyenne Invitational basketball tournament. The game was played Thursday at Cheyenne East High School.

Despite the score, Riverton High School head coach Dick Quayle was pleased with his team's opener.

"We were actually tied in the middle of the third quarter. We made some mistakes, and they made a run. It was a good quality team from Fort Collins," Quayle said.

Brandon Fullerton led Riverton with 14 points, and Caleb Ogg added nine points. The Wolverines had 12 players see action.

"We'll have a lot of peaks and valleys with our young team, but I thought we did a lot of good things. I was really happy with our kids," Quayle said.

Riverton battles two home teams for their final two first-weekend games.

The Wolverine challenge Cheyenne East at 8 p.m. Friday on the Thunderbirds' home court, then travel crosstown to Cheyenne Central for a 4:30 p.m. game Saturday.
