0-3 record for St. Stephen's girls to start hoops season

Dec 10, 2013 - By Randy Tucker, Sports Writer

It was a long weekend for St. Stephen's playing up a division in the Class 2-A Thermopolis Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Eagles dropped all three games, beginning with a 52-29 loss to the host Bobcats and following Saturday with a 61-45 loss to Tongue River and a 54-38 decision to Shoshoni.

The Eagles had their chances in the Tongue River game, building a 17-8 lead after one quarter behind a blistering 10-point first period performance by Kaylee Addison. Addison hit a pair of 3-pointers and two more from short range to lead the surge.

Tongue River regained control against the St. Stephen's press in the following periods and roared into the lead behind a 22-point performance of its own in the third period. The surge continued into the final period as the green-and-white Eagles from Sheridan County blew open a tight game in the final minutes.

Against Shoshoni, SS fell behind early and never recovered.

Shoshoni juniors Annika Dechert and Olivia Thompson were too much for the Eagles, as the duo combined for 43 of the Wranglers' 54 total points. Thompson led with 27, mostly on quick transition baskets. Dechert tallied 16, including Shoshoni's only 3-pointer of the game.
