Dec 10, 2013 - By Randy Tucker, Sports Writer

The St. Stephen's Eagles dropped a trio of games to Class 2-A opponents at the Thermopolis Invitational last weekend in Hot Springs County.

The Eagles fell 59-41 to the host Bobcats, then dropped a 73-46 decision to Fremont County rival Shoshoni, and were run over by Tongue River 96-59.

Against Shoshoni, the Eagles trailed by 10 after the first quarter and never recovered. The Wranglers held a decisive 36-19 lead at the half and bumped that advantage to 25 points by the end of the third.

William Groesbeck paced the Eagles with 18 points, and Derek Williams added 14.

For Shoshoni four players tallied double-figure scoring, with seniors Jayden Haslam and Mason Steffen tallying 14, each followed by 13 from freshman Gary Medicine Cloud and 12 from Walker Reynolds.

The Tongue River contest started as a shootout, with both teams scoring at will in a fast-paced transition game but St. Stephen's cooled off in the second and Tongue River kept the pace.

Tongue River rolled to a 17-point lead at the half but St. Stephen's rallied early in the third before the Eagles from Sheridan County put the game away for good with a 25-point third period.
