Prized football found in ditch near north Riverton intersection
Dec 11, 2013 - From staff reports
Robert and Nancy Antelope of Riverton weren't really looking for The Ranger's decorated football on Tuesday, but they found it anyway.
The Antelopes, including their young daughter, Hannah, were returning home from lunch and had stopped at the intersection of Gasser Road and Major Avenue near the Riverton Junior Football League field.
"We saw it in the ditch, and we jumped out and grabbed it," Robert Antelope said.
The football was worth $250 in cash to the family, and they also won a Denver Broncos football helmet carrying the original team logo from the early 1960s.
Robert Antelope said he had taken part in previous Ranger treasure hunts, particularly the Wild West Winter Carnival Medallion search, but without much luck. This was the second year of the "Find the Football" contest. Six of a possible 10 clues had been published in The Ranger before the ball was returned.
The WWWC Medallion hunt begins in February, with a $500 cash prize on the line.
