Dec 13, 2013 - From staff reportsRiverton resident Leane Linnell competed this week in the Fifth Annual Art of the Cowboy Makers Contest at the Alexis Park All Suite Resort in Las Vegas.
For the last 18 months, Linnell has been making custom mohair cinches and horsehair hitching, and she submitted a 21-strand vaquero type mohair cinch for the competition.
Linnell said she has always had a love for all things horses, and she spent many years competing with her horses and still enjoys riding.
This is the contest's first year in Las Vegas, where it will coincide with the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
The competition will feature makers from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Japan and Peru, plus entrants from 14 states, who will showcase their skills in 10 categories: boots, braiding, chaps, cinch, engraving, hats, leather rope bags, leather tack carving, saddles and spurs.
