Harlen 'Dean' Weitzel

Harlen "Dean" Weitzel, of Sterling, Colo., died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in Sterling. He was 78 years old.
Memorial services were Friday, Dec. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor James Nash officiating. A second memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton with the Rev. Dave Magruder officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Harlen Dean Weitzel was born Feb. 3, 1935, in Henry, Neb., the son of Alex and Amelia Weitzel.
He graduated high school and worked for Dick Truck Lines, Mid West Coast Trucking and Mountain Empire Dairy Association, and he farmed on the side.
On Nov. 29, 1953, he married Darlene Fresorger, and they were married until 1969. He later married Connie Marrow in October 1971.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and loved doing activities at the Senior Citizens Center.
His family said he loved watching sports, playing golf, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends, especially coffee time with his buddies.
He is survived by his sister, Wilma Kisling, and her husband Scott; children Cindy Pennington and her husband Bob, Roxann Edwards and her husband Jim, Darla Stevens and her husband Jim, and Denise Gerk and her husband Steve; grandchildren Ryan Pennington, Erin Weber (Pennington), Bobbi Archuleta (Edwards), Jamie West (Edwards), Roy Edwards, Jason Weitzel, Chris Gerk, Tyler Gerk, Jeremy Gerk, Lynlee Gerk, Spencer Gerk and Kyle Gerk; eight great-grandchildren; and special friend Sharon Fritzler.
He was preceded in death by his wife Connie, parents Alex and Amelia Weitzel, and brother LaVern Weitzel.
