Turn vacant lot downtown into paid parking for businesses

Dec 18, 2013 - Mike Jorgus, Riverton

I have a suggestion for using the vacant lot at Fifth and Main in downtown Riverton that the City of Riverton owns if nothing is going to be built there.

The city could go around to the downtown businesses to see if the businesses wanted to use the lot for employee parking. They could pay for parking space every month, not very much, maybe $25 a month or something like that. Employees could park in the vacant lot and have a permit on the windshield to show they had paid for it.

Best of all, the parking spaces downtown would be open for customers to use instead of all the business employees parking there all day. This happens a lot on the side streets off Main.

The alternative seems to be just leaving it there for anyone to park free all day on city property or abandon vehicles on it.
