A pair of victories started the Wrangler Classic the right way for the Shoshoni High School girls basketball team on Friday.
The Wranglers pounded Farson-Eden 63-39 in the tournament opener, then slipped by Hanna 42-37 later in the day.
The victory over Farson-Eden was the home opener for the SHS girls.
"You always love playing your home games," SHS girls coach Max Mills said.
"It's always good to get the victory at home. The kids played hard against Farson. I was very proud of the effort that we put forth from top to bottom."
Upton took down SHS 47-39 on Saturday morning.
The Wranglers played the Dubois Rams in the last game of the tournament
Hanna-Elk Mountain beat Dubois 44-31 on Friday.
Farson-Eden defeated Dubois 53-39.
"I think that it was just the defensive intensity," Mills said. "We were really getting up in their face."
Farson made a number of turnovers early on against Shoshoni.
"When you can get a couple of easy steals and layups, that helps the team," Mills said. "The kids will come back and play harder defense the next series."
Shoshoni's Olivia Thompson had game-high honors with 33 points, and teammate Annika Dechert had 17.
"I was happy that we got the eyes up, and we started to look down the court, and we didn't get into too big of a hurry," Mills said. "We have the building blocks to build on."
In the last period, Mills used his younger players in the varsity game.
"You always want to get as much playing time as you can for everybody," Mills said. "It would be nice if we had a second court and we could play junior varsity games."
Thompson scored 23 points later against Hanna. Teammate Raine Pingetzer scored added 12 points.
