Dec 26, 2013 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

The first day will be used for pool play. The second day will have the semifinals and title games slated for WIHS gym. The first game will be played at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.

Six teams have been stacked into the scaled down Fremont County Shootout tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Ethete.

Teams in the tournament are Wyoming Indian, Ten Sleep, Saratoga, St. Stephen's, Wind River and the Riverton sophomores.

The tournament opener is slated for 8:30 a.m. Friday between the Wind River boys and St. Stephen's.

The undefeated Wyoming Indian High School Chiefs play at 10 a.m. vs. Saratoga.

"Guys are really playing together," WIHS boys coach Craig Ferris said. "They are trusting more each and every game and in every practice."

WIHS has steamrolled to a 6-0 record.

"We always want to improve defensively," Ferris said. "We are really working well offensively. We want to work on our ball pressure and rebounding. We want to cause more turnovers. Those are the things that we are always trying to improve on."

Ferris is pleased with how his bench players are contributing to the early season success.

"I think that I'm going eight to 10 guys deep," Ferris said. "That high level of play isn't really dropping off as much as I thought that it would be with my bench guys. They are working just as hard as my starters. I feel like I have two or three guys on my bench that could start for me."

Wind River stands at 2-6, and St. Stephen's has a 1-4 mark.

"Saratoga is always strong like us in cross country," Ferris said. "I know that they will have some speed."

Ten Sleep is 1-6. Saratoga is 6-1.

"Hopefully, Saratoga doesn't have a lot of size and they won't match up with us," Ferris said.

The Chiefs square off at 7 p.m. Friday vs. Ten Sleep.

The second day will be used for the semifinals and the championship games. The boys semifinals games are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The title game starts at about 8:30 p.m.

The Wind River girls start the tournament at 8:30 a.m. Friday with the Riverton sophomores in the middle school gym.

Wind River enters the tournament at 5-3.

Wyoming Indian's girls are 3-3. St. Stephen's is 2-3, while Ten Sleep has a 3-4 mark. Saratoga is 3-4.

The WIHS girls play at 11:30 a.m. vs. Saratoga.
