RHS girls get second straight victory, 51-33 over Laramie

Riverton won't play again until Jan. 9.

LARAMIE -- Call it a mini-streak. Call it a statement. Call it whatever you want, but the Riverton Lady Wolverines won their second consecutive game Friday, winning 51-33 on the road against Class 4-A non-conference foe Laramie.

Kiley Ridgway led all scorers with 18, and Savannah Salisbury and Deni Lou Nicholls both scored seven for Riverton (2-5).

The Lady Wolverines will now have 13 days off before resuming play in the Bill Strannigan East vs. West tournament when Cheyenne South, Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Sheridan and Evanston come to Riverton for the Lady Wolverines' home debut.

"This was a great win. We beat our opponent on their floor, and this was a true road victory. We asked our girls to go out and make a statement in the first half. We did what we needed to do," RHS head coach Ron Porter said.

Jensyn Pettit's early bucket put Riverton up 3-0 but the Lady Plainsmen (2-3) scored the next four points to grab their only lead of the night.

Baskets by Ridgway, Camey Fegler and three more buckets by Ridgway had Riverton up for good at 13-8 after the first quarter.

The Lady Wolverines (2-5) committed just 14 turnovers, compared to Laramie's 24, and outrebounded the Lady Plainsmen 37-29.

"We've been bit by the flu bug, injury and holiday travel. We still have to get up, play and show up. You have to give Riverton credit," LHS head coach Kyle Stuckey said.

The game at Laramie High School may the last time Riverton will play in the old LHS gym.

Laramie's new high school and gymnasiums are set to open in time for the 2015-16 season, according to Laramie athletic director Bruce Schmidt.
