Jan 2, 2014 - StaffRichard Anthony Sutherland Jr., of Dubois, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Help for Health Hospice in Riverton. He was 67 years old.
Per his request, cremation has taken place, and there will be no services.
Richard Sutherland Jr. was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Ipswich, Mass., the son of Richard A. Sutherland Sr. and Catherine (Gianakis) Sutherland. He grew up and lived in Ipswich, Mass. He also lived in Maine, Florida, Georgia and other East Coast states. In the summer of 1993, he came to Dubois on his motorcycle and never left. It was his dream to come west.
On Jan. 4, 1997, he married Susan (Griffith) Sanderson at the Timberline Ranch.
His first job in Dubois was as a cook at the Timberline Ranch. His family said cooking was not only his "job" but also his passion, he loved to cook. He also worked as a carpenter. He loved the outdoors and fishing and hunting, and Dubois was the perfect fit for all the things he loved best.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, having served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Sutherland; sons Richard Sutherland and Joseph Sutherland; daughter Evonne Sutherland; stepson Erik Sanderson; stepdaughter Jaime Dorsey; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
Memorial donations may be made to the High Country Senior Center in Dubois or to the Helping Hands Hospice in Riverton.
