Jan 6, 2014 - By Katie Roenigk, Staff Writer
A Riverton police officer started 2014 with a case of prostitution in progress on New Year's Day.
According to reports, the policeman was on patrol at about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday when he saw a car parked at the end of the Rails to Trails pathway near the Wind River.
"(It) was kind of back in there a bit," Riverton Police Department Capt. Eric Murphy said of the vehicle. "(The officer) was curious, so he went up there."
A 64-year-old Lander man reportedly was reclined in the driver's seat, and Murphy said a 48-year-old Riverton woman "had her head in his lap."
"(The officer) put two and two together and figured out what was going on," Murphy said. "He got (the subject) out of the car."
The man's zipper reportedly was down when he exited the vehicle. He told police he pays the woman $20 about once each week for oral sex. He was cited for solicitation of prostitution, and she was cited for prostitution and taken to the Center of Hope alcohol treatment facility.
