Short-handed CWC men fall to Western

Jan 6, 2014 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Several Rustlers missed the game on a suspension for violating team rules.

Central Wyoming College men's basketball coach Pat Rafferty dressed only five players in a 76-60 loss to Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday night in Rock Springs.

The loss dropped CWC to 1-2 in the Region IX North Sub-region.

Western improved to 1-2 in conference play.

Several CWC players didn't suit up because of breaking team rules.

"The game was right there in front of us," Rafferty said. "Regardless of how many guys played, you still have to do the right things. The kids tried and they worked hard. We still didn't do enough things right to win the game."

Foul trouble didn't come into play for the Rustlers.

"Western is good," Rafferty said. "They are solid. They are well coached. They have good balance inside and outside. They are a nice team in our sub-region."

CWC hosts Gillette College on Wednesday night at Rustler Gym.

The game starts at 7:30 p.m.

Gillette College is off to a 2-0 start in the conference and stands 13-2 overall.

"Gillette is off to a terrific start," Rafferty said. "They have been hammering people. We are going to have to play really well and smart in order to win."
