Jan 10, 2014 - StaffMichael Bearing died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in Phoenix. He was 50 years old.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Blue Sky Hall in Ethete. An evening service and wake will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Blue Sky Hall. Interment will be in the Tyler Family Cemetery on 17 Mile Road.
Michael James Bearing was born Aug. 15, 1963, in Chicago, the son of the late Florence and Nelson James Bearing.
He attended schools at Lander Valley High School and Phoenix College.
He was a laborer and lived on the Wind River Indian Reservation before moving to Phoenix.
His family said he enjoyed drawing and telling stories, and he believed in his Arapaho ways and culture.
He is survived by sisters, Loucinda, Cadotte, Vernalyn and Molina Bearing and Mary Killsontop; brother Franklin Bearing; aunts Mary Cowboy, Chalis Coulston, Martha Brown, Joanne Sage and Mary Agnes Ghost Bear; uncles Alfred Oldman, Jim Coulston and John Addison; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Michelle Bearing; and grandparents Frank and Martha Tyler.
