Jan 10, 2014 - From staff reportsThe Fremont Symphony Orchestra has announced its new name in preparation for the annual fundraiser concert Saturday.
Known as the Fremont County Orchestra for its first 26 seasons, the orchestra board approved the name change during a late 2013 meeting after the orchestra's successful fall concert in November.
On Saturday, Fremont Symphony Orchestra members and supporters will present a musical celebration of solos and ensembles to benefit the organization.
The 3 p.m. concert will be in the Carnegie Room at the Lander Library.
The concert will feature ensemble instrumental music from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Musicians will perform selections for strings and wind instruments by Telemann, Vivaldi, Bruch, Barber and others.
Organizers said they would provide hors d'oeuvres during a post-performance reception.
Although the event is free, orchestra members will solicit donations to help fund orchestra expenses, such as music and other associated costs.
The Fremont Symphony Orchestra's 27th season also will feature a spring concert March 22 at the Lander Valley High School Auditorium.
