Make it four straight for RHS girls, 44-24 over Powell

After an emotional win Thursday against rival Lander, the Riverton Lady Wolverines basketball team kept the victory train churning full steam ahead with what turned out to be an emphatic win over the Class 3-A Powell Lady Panthers 44-24 Saturday afternoon at Wolverine Gym.

It was Riverton's fourth straight win and pushes the season record to a near .500 at 6-7.

The loss drops Powell to 7-4 overall.

Kiley Ridgway, who appears to be getting more comfortable with strong, physical style of post play, led all scores with 16 points, pulled down a game-high four rebounds, and had a game high four blocked shots despite playing just over half of the game.

Camey Fegler also scored in double figures for the Lady Wolverines with 11.

"We were even in rebounding at 15-15 at halftime, and we said that we needed to do a better job dominating the boards, and we did," Riverton head coach Ron Porter said.

The Lady Wolverines got 10 more rebounds than Powell in the second half.

As much as Riverton excelled on offense -- eight girls scored Saturday -- it was the defense that prevented Powell from staying in the game.

Savannah Salisbury drew the task of guarding Powell's Jenni Ebersberger, who averaged 15 points per game coming into Saturday's non-conference battle. She left Wolverine Gym scoring only four.

"Savannah played really tough. She works so hard at defense and presents so many problems with her active hands. She hit some big shots for us too," Porter said.

Riverton opens Class 4-A West conference play this Friday at Rock Springs.

"We had an opportunity to play a lot of kids. We're going to need depth. I thought we played well at both ends of the floor and had a lot of unselfishness," Porter said.
