Short-handed and on the road, the Wyoming Indian girls still picked up a Friday night win at Big Piney 60-36.

On Saturday the Chiefs fell 62-52 to conference-leading Kemmerer.

The split moves the Chiefs to 2-2 in conference play.

Wyoming Indian played without leading scorer Loveeda White, who was ill at practice earlier in the week and wasn't released to play this weekend.

"No Loveeda. I was proud of how the girls stepped up," Wyoming Indian head coach Aleta Moss said. "It was a really big boost for our confidence ."

The Chiefs built a huge lead in the opening period behind their familiar full-court pressure and led by a dozen after one quarter.

That all faded in the second, when Big Piney finally as able to reach the basket. The Punchers poured in 21 points in the second and led by one at the half.

The first four minutes of the second half was the difference in the contest. Big Piney threw the ball away 12 times during a Wyoming Indian flurry of pressure defense and transition offense.

The Chiefs vaulted into the lead behind a furious, swarming defense and outscored the home team 21-7. The onslaught continued in the fourth quarter, with Big Piney scoring only a pair of free throws while the Chiefs maintained their offense.

"We have so many different roles we have to play, and we're making adjustments," Moss said. "In the fourth quarter we played good half-court defense, and Big Piney was tired "
