Bonnie Jean Lay, of Wheatland, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland. She was 85 years old.
A funeral service was Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Wheatland Bible Church in Wheatland with Pastor Jason Lacovetto officiating. Interment followed in the Harrison Cemetery in Harrison, Neb.
Bonnie Jean Lay was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Harrison, Neb., the daughter of Raymond and Merle (Mason) Riley.
She grew up on a ranch 25 miles southwest of Harrison, Neb. She went to country school through the eighth grade and graduated from the Sioux County High School in Harrison, Neb., in 1946.
On Dec. 31, 1946, she married Ora D. "Doc" Lay. They moved to the Heins ranch and eventually lived on ranches in Mullen, Neb., Platte County, Wyoming, and Douglas where Mr. Lay died on Nov. 15, 1985.
After his death, Mrs. Lay continued to live and work on the ranch before moving to Wheatland where she resided until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Wheatland Bible Church.
She is survived by her children, Virginia Allen of Wichita, Kan., Ronald (Kathy) Lay of Riverton, Larry (Shirley) Lay of Riverton, Shelly Kellogg of Wichita, Kan., and Bryan (Sheri) Lay of Wheatland; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Doc, and sister, Rita Rohen.
