Cody also defeated Riverton onR00;Thursday in Park County.

A short-term memory paid off for the Lander Tigers wrestling team in a pair of Class 3-A West conference duals.

The Tigers were crushed by top-ranked Powell 63-9 on Thursday night in Park County, but Lander bounced back to upset Cody 39-27 on Friday night at Bob Carey Memorial Fieldhouse.

Cody was fourth at the Lander Invitational a week ago, and the Tigers were fifth. Cody is ranked No. 4 in the Class 3-A wrestling ranks. The Tigers are No. 6.

"Cody had a nice showing in our tournament," Lander coach Nick Fulton said. "It was good to beat Cody in a dual situation in our gym. Our kids wrestled hard."

The Tigers managed to win just two matches vs. the powerful Powell squad. Palmer Schafer won at 106 pounds, and Mark McConnell pinned the Powell wrestler in the 113-pound division.

"The score looks pretty ugly, but we were very competitive in a lot of the matches," Fulton said. "We didn't wrestle our worst. If anything, I was more concerned about being tired. We got back at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, and the kids attended school all day. "

Cody edges Wolverines

Cody defeated the Riverton Wolverines 42-31 at Switzer Gym on Thursday. The Wolverines were in the conference duals on Saturday in Rock Springs.

Riverton, Lander and Cody all will be in the Ron Thon Memorial Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Wolverine Gym.

The first-round matches start Friday morning. The championship matches are held Saturday afternoon.
