KW girls hand Riverton 57-45 loss in Casper

Feb 3, 2014 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer

CASPER -- The Riverton Lady Wolverines basketball team suffered its second consecutive Class 4-A West Conference setback Saturday afternoon with a 57-45 loss at Casper Kelly Walsh.

The Lady Wolverines (7-9 overall, 1-2 Class 4-A West) will regroup and look to get back on track this Friday at Green River. Saturday, Riverton will stay on the road for a game against Evanston.

Although the Lady Wolverines kept the game close early -- Riverton was down by three after the first quarter -- the Lady Trojans, "played harder and smarter than we did, and they shot the ball so well," Riverton head coach Ron Porter said.

Camey Fegler led Riverton in scoring with 12 points, and Savannah Salisbury tallied nine.

"They outplayed us. We did plan to be 2-1 after today (in the Class 4-A West) but we are not going to be. But we can still get to where we want to be," Porter said.

Kelly Walsh's Oliva L'ami led all scorers with 17, Sofi Huff scored 14, and Kathy Nganga added 12.

After being down 42-25 after three quarters, Riverton tried to respond late, scoring 20 in the fourth quarter. But the late game surge was not enough.

"Jacee Shultz gave us a boost late in the game," Porter said.
