Feb 7, 2014 - StaffClair E. Wheeler, of Casper, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper. He was 93 years old.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel in Casper. A graveside service with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
Clair Elmo Wheeler was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Eustis, Neb., the son of Charles and Grace (Rupe) Wheeler.
He served as a captain in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific.
His family said he enjoyed golfing, playing softball and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, June E. Wheeler; daughters Shelley Steinfeld and Bobbie Van Houten; grandchildren Brad (Samantha) Steinfeld, Nichole (Dan) Ley, Jamie Steinfeld, Teri Ellis and Brandi (Chris) Byrnes; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace Wheeler; sister June Marietta; and son-in-law Dennis Steinfeld.
