Feb 17, 2014 - StaffWayne Major died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Help for Health in Riverton. He was 94 years old.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Fremont Center at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Fremont Center.
Wayne Major was born June 29, 1919, in Elwood, Neb., the son of Hallie (Franey) Major and Leslie Major.
When he was 19, he and his brother, Harold, moved to Wyoming to work construction. After farming for many years, he started Major's Equipment and began selling farm supplies and fertilizer to area farmers.
He married Rama Davis in 1943.
In 1969, he became the Fremont County Butler Builder representative and built many farm and commercial buildings in the community over the next 50 years.
His family said he chose to serve the Lord at an early age, a choice he honored his entire life.
His family said he had a friendly, cheerful manner and an interest in everyone he met, and he developed numerous valued friendships throughout his long lifetime.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rama; his 98-year-old brother, Harold, of Safford, Ariz.; sons Wayne Jr. and his wife Wanda of Riverton, and Leon and his wife Ava of Vale, Ore.; grandchildren Shawna Major of Bridger, Mont., Brent Major of Laramie, David Major of Safford, Ariz., and Heidi Major of Vale, Ore.; and many beloved nieces and nephews from both sides of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Michelle Snelling.
