County wrestlers make podium in 2-A regional

Shoshoni, Dubois and Wind River all won individual wrestling championships Saturday at the Class 2-A West regionals in Lovell.

Connor Wilkinson captured his at 120 pounds for SHS, and teammate J.J. Crichton finished first at 160 pounds.

Wind River's Keanan Pfisterer was in the top spot at 106 pounds.

Sterling Baker of Dubois dominated his weight class for the regional title at 195 pounds.

All four wrestlers will now be No. 1 seeds for the state tournament beginning Friday at the Casper Events Center.

Team standings

Cokeville won the regional team crown, scoring 188 points. Lovell was the runner-up at 147 points.

Shoshoni placed fourth in the team standings with 134.5 points. Wind River was seventh at 73 points. Dubois finished ninth (40) and Wyoming Indian came in 11th (20).

In the heavyweight division, Wyoming Indian's Jose Gonzalez placed second.


At 120 pounds, Wilkinson took a 7-2 victory against Lovell's Joseph Bassett.

Crichton pinned Kemmerer's Rylee Roberts in a time of 2:33 to complete a 4-0 record at regionals.

Danny Huxtable placed second at 126 pounds for the Wranglers. Alex Minge (170 pounds) and Patrick Forster (220) both brought home second-place medals for Shoshoni.

Wind River

Pfisterer showed he is a state contender at 106 pounds with three straight victories to earn a spot in the title match, where he pinned Rocky Mountain's Brian Crawford in a time of 3:06.

Dylan Lookingbill reached the finals after pinning Lovell's Hyrum Hopkin in 3:42 at 152 pounds.

Jesus Burgos from Riverside/Greybull pinned Lookingbill in 1:41.

John Thoman was third at 106 pounds, and Kristopher Justice added another third in the 160-pound division.


Baker pinned all three of his opponents at regionals. The first two pins were in the first period.

In the title match, Baker pinned Zane Edeler from Riverside/Greybull in a time of 5:15.

Rowan Hawk finished third at 170 pounds for Dubois.
