Commission correct to ask county employees to pay more on insurance

Feb 28, 2014 - Randy Learlieb, Riverton

Applause to the Fremont County Commission for requiring more employee financial input to the county's health insurance plan. I don't hold anything against the county workers, but this puts them more in line with what us non-government workers have to deal with on health care.

I also think it is a very good idea to offer them a chance to keep premiums low by taking a higher deductible. It gives them some choices. For more of us in the private sector market, a high-deductible is simply the way it is with health insurance any more, unless we want to pay through the nose.

People always are saying how government should be run more like a business would run. Not many businesses pay full health coverage any more, so this is a step that way. It will keep taxes down for everyone else.
