Watts scores well at indoor track

Mar 12, 2014 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Sean Watts ran to a pair of top-four finishes Saturday for the Riverton Wolverines at the state indoor track and field meet in Gillette.

Watts was third in the 55 meters in a time of 6.70 seconds. Casper Casper Natrona teammates Trisitin Cloward and Chance Jones tied for first at 6.65. There were more than 70 athletes in the sprint race.

"Sean was right there in the 55 meters," RHS coach Tawn Gopp said. "He got on the start a little better than he normally does.

Watts came in fourth in the 200 meters, clocked in 23.03. Joey Czellecz from Kelly Walsh was first (22.77).

"I think that Sean had a chance to win the whole thing in the 200 meters," Gopp said. "Sean was in lane eight in the finals. To get fourth was really good."

On the girls side, Riverton's Ashtyn Leisy was fourth in the long jump at 16-2.50.

"We did some stuff to keep Ashtyn healthy for the state meet," Gopp said.

Gillette won the state title in the girls field. Casper Natrona finished in the top spot in the boys side. The RHS boys were 12th, and the girls came in 15th.

Riverton started outdoor track practice Monday.

The season opener is Saturday, March 22, at the Early Bird Invitational in Casper.
