Burnet takes barrels for CWC as spring rodeo season starts

Central Wyoming College cowgirl Kaylee Burnett won the barrel racing title Sunday at the Gillette College rodeo to begin the spring season.

Burnett posted a two-ride time of 30.79 seconds on her way to the top spot.

Allie Novotny from Sheridan College came in second at 30.85 seconds.

In the Central Rocky Mountain regional standings, Burnett is fourth with 370 points.

Gillette's Kristi Steffes has a commanding lead at 715 points. Her teammate Tally Roepke is second (520) and Amy Deichert of Chadron sits third (385).

The top three qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo at the end of the season.

Hill sits first

CWC cowboy Coltin Hill placed fifth in steer wrestling after locking down of a time of 12.5 seconds at the Gillette rodeo.

The place lifted Hill into the top spot in the regional standings.

Hill has piled up 360 points. Chadron's Russell Hipke is second with 295 points. Casper College cowboy Riley Krassin is fourth (280 points). Krassin is from Lander.

Standings

In the team standings at Gillette, the CWC women were fifth with 135 points.

Gillette College won the title at 375 points. Chadron State and Sheridan College tied for second at 215 points apiece.

The CWC men didn't get into the top 10.

Tie-down roping -- 1. Treg Schaach, NEJC, 19.4.

Steer wrestling -- 1. Collin Chytka, Chadron, 8.8; 5. Coltin Hill, CWC, 12.5.

Team roping header -- 1. Clayton Van Aken, Wyoming, 14.8.

Team roping heeler -- 1. Kyon Kreutzer, NEJC, 14.7.

Barrel racing -- 1. Kaylee Burnett, CWC, 30.79.

Breakaway roping -- 1. Coralee Spratt, Gillette, 5.8.

Goat tying -- 1. Amy Tiernery, Chadron, 15.7; 3. Shana Lyons, CWC, 16.2.
