Kelly Walsh High School placed three golfers in the top six to run away with the boys team title in the 12-team Riverton High School Spring Invitational played Friday at the Riverton Country Club.
The Trojans' five top golfers carded a 326 (38-over-par) to beat second-place Powell by 12 strokes.
On the girls side, Kelly Walsh also won the team title.
In boys play, Lander placed third overall with a 352 and was lead by Joe McGowan (84), Levie Stuttle (88), Scottie Kaufman (90), Tyson Sollars (90) and Sam Brodie (94).
McGowan tied for seventh individually in the one-day event.
Riverton's boys golf team placed fifth with a total score of 384. The Wolverines were led by Preston Ward who shot an 85, good enough to tie for ninth-place overall. Other Wolverine varsity golfers included Isaiah Valerio and Jordan Yowell who both shot 98, Jaden Nyberg who carded a 103, and Deyton Henry,111.
Trojan Drew Petrie was the top individual golfer, shooting a 76.
"I thought that Preston could have played better," said assistant coach Russ Holgate. "The problem was that the ground was hard. They were hitting clubs that they normally hit in the summer, and the balls were running through the fairways and out of bounds."
In girls play, Riverton had three golfers and was led by Whitney Aschenbrener who shot a 102. Lincoln Horath carded a 104 and Shaylee Cunningham shot a 106.
For the Lander girls, Jordan Hichew fired a 91, good enough for third-place overall, and Janah Hudson shot a 156.
"It is hard to play in the spring, and it is still early in the season," Holgate said.
Riverton will travel Friday to Thermopolis for its next match.
